servicing your electric vehicle - what yo uneed to know before you buy

PHEV and HEV vehicles have internal combustion engines and so their maintenance & safety records will be similar to these older models. However, they should need brake replacement less often because of the regenerative braking used on electric models.

As we mentioned, all-electric vehicles typically require less maintenance than conventional vehicles because:

  • Battery, motor & other electronics require little to no regular maintenance.
  • There are fewer fluids (like engine oil) that require regular maintenance.
  • Brake wear is significantly reduced due to regenerative braking.
  • There are far fewer moving parts relative to an internal combustion engine.
